Programme overview

If you have achieved consistently high grades in your Bachelor of Commerce degree (or equivalent) you could be eligible for the honours programme. It will provide you with an additional 120 points of postgraduate research-based study to develop your analytical skills and critical thinking.

You will complete a set of advanced courses in the discipline and a short supervised dissertation or project that will demonstrate your independent research skills. Your honours programme structure and courses will depend on the specialization selected.

What you will learn

The study of accounting can be regarded as either a specialist professional area in itself or as a basic tool which can be applied across the broad spectrum of business or non-profit organizations.

If you study accounting at undergraduate level, you may decide to embark on a career in one of these careers:

Financial accounting: accountant or auditor in a chartered accountancy practice, industry, or the public sector.
Management accounting: business consultant or financial manager in a manufacturing, service, or consultancy organization.
You can further develop your knowledge with postgraduate study leading to more senior or specialized career roles in both financial and management accounting.

Programme structure

The honours programme comprises 120 points, i.e 90 points of coursework plus a 30-point dissertation. It is possible to include up to 30 points of elective courses from a relevant field.
