Programme overview

If you have achieved consistently high grades in your Bachelor of Commerce degree (or equivalent) you could be eligible for the honours programme. It will provide you with an additional 120 points of postgraduate research-based study to develop your analytical skills and critical thinking.

You will complete a set of advanced courses in the discipline and a short supervised dissertation or project that will demonstrate your independent research skills. Your honours programme structure and courses will depend on the specialization selected.

Complementary majors

A double major combines two specialist fields of study. Commercial Law is a popular second major and complements most other business majors including: Accounting; Finance; Marketing; Management; International Business.

Depending on the other major, you could become a financial accountant, financial adviser, investment consultant, receiver, regulator or business policy adviser.

Programme structure

The honours programme comprises 120 points, i.e 90 points of coursework plus a 30-point dissertation. It is possible to include up to 30 points of elective courses from a relevant field.

Requirements

• LAW 788
• 30 points in COMLAW 788 Dissertation
• 90 points from LAWCOMM 701-769, with the approval of the Deans of Business and Economics, and Law, of the courses taught in their respective faculties.

Accounting; Economics; Finance; Global Management & Innovation; Information Systems; Marketing; Operations and Supply Chain Management.

Entry criteria

A BCom with at least a B grade average in the Stage III courses required for the major.

A major in Commercial Law or equivalent courses as approved by the Head of Department.

English language requirements: IELTS 6.5; TOEFL (iBT) 90; TOEFL (paper-based) 575; CAE or CPE 176; PTE 58; MELAB 85.
