Programme overview
The MTESOL is a taught masters degree for teachers with experience teaching English as a second or foreign language who want to understand and develop their professional practice.
Our courses provide a structured learning environment, as well as allowing you to follow your own interests. We offer small classes and regular feedback.
You can take the MTESOL online, on campus, or both. This is helpful if you are teaching and not able to attend classes on campus or living overseas.
Completing this programme does not qualify you to teach in state schools in New Zealand.
Programme structure
There are two different ways that you can structure your MTESOL:
Taught courses only
Three core courses in second language course design and methodology, language assessment and second language acquisition (45 points)
One course in either discourse analysis or sociolinguistics and language teaching (15 points)
Four elective courses in Language Teaching and Learning (60 points)

Where could this programme take you?
If you already have experience in language teaching, the MTESOL will enable you to develop knowledge and skills for employment as a language teacher or in a more senior role.
