    Summary

    For all current health professionals and those with a relevant undergraduate degree wishing to pursue postgraduate study in a health-related field.

    This programme covers a broad range of subjects that will cater for all interests, allowing a generic personalised programme of study.

    The Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (PGDipHSc) in Child and Adolescent Mental Health is designed for graduates in medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology, or social work who are wishing to further develop their skills and knowledge in this field. Areas of focus include child and adolescent development, psychopathology, assessment and case studies.

    This specialisation is offered by the School of Medicine. Courses in this specialisation are offered in a Distance learning format.

    Students are required to enrol in, and complete, the following courses:

    30 points from:

    PSYCHIAT 740 - Child and Adolescent Psychopathology (15 Points)

    PSYCHIAT 747 - Child and Adolescent Development (15 Points)

    PSYCHIAT 768 - Assessment, Formulation and Treatment Planning in Child and Adolescent Mental Health (30 Points)

    15 points:

    PSYCHIAT 741 - Therapy in Child and Adolescent Mental Health - Theory (15 Points)

    A research methods course from:

    POPLHLTH 701 - Research Methods in Health (15 Points)

    POPLHLTH 704 - Undertaking Qualitative Health Research (15 Points)

    POPLHLTH 705 - Evaluation Research Methods (15 Points)

    POPLHLTH 708 - Epidemiology (15 Points)

    POPLHLTH 767 - Health Services Research Methods (15 Points)

    and a further 60 points from:

    PSYCHIAT 740 - Child and Adolescent Psychopathology (15 Points)

    PSYCHIAT 747 - Child and Adolescent Development (15 Points)

    PSYCHIAT 768 - Assessment, Formulation and Treatment Planning in Child and Adolescent Mental Health (30 Points)

    PSYCHIAT 769 - CBT with Children, Adolescents and their Families 1 (15 Points)

    PSYCHIAT 770 - CBT with Children, Adolescents and their Families 2 (15 Points)

    or

    a further minimum of 30 points from PSYCHIAT 740, 747, 768-772 and up to 30 points from other courses approved by the Head of the School of Medicine.

    Entry criteria

    You must have completed an undergraduate degree at a recognised university (or similar institution) in a health-related discipline such as health sciences, medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, psychology, or social work. You will need a Grade Point Average (GPA) or Grade Point Equivalent (GPE) of at least 2.5.

    English language requirements:
    IELTS 6.5; TOEFL (iBT) 90; TOEFL (paper-based) 575; CAE or CPE 176; PTE 58; MELAB 85.
