Learn to collect, analyse and interpret data. Statistics is a mathematical tool to help us understand today's information-rich world and statisticians work in many different industries - from the financial world to marketing campaigns to government policy.

At Victoria you'll study both theory and practice and get the knowledge and skills you need to use statistics in the workplace. You're likely to focus on one of three different pathways - Mathematical Statistics, Applied Statistics, or Data Science.

Course Structure

For this degree you'll need to:

Complete at least 360 points, of which:

• At least 270 points must be from courses listed for the BSc
• At least 210 points must be from 200 and 300-level courses, including:
• At least 150 points must be from courses listed for the BSc
• At least 75 points must be from 300-level courses listed for the BSc

Courses listed for other degrees may be counted as being BSc courses, including:

• A maximum of 30 points if taken to satisfy a BSc major
• A maximum of 30 points if taken to satisfy a second major from another first degree at this university
• A maximum of 60 points across both these categories
• Complete one course in MATH, PHYS, QUAN, STAT (or an approved equivalent) at any level
• Complete one approved course that demonstrates competency in oral and written communications

In addition to the degree requirements, for this major you'll need to complete:

Two courses from:

• MATH 100-199
• STAT 100-199

Four courses at 200 level:

• Either Applied Statistics 2A (STAT 292) or Mathematical Statistics (MATH 277)

One further course from:

• MATH 200-299
• STAT 200-299

Two further Science courses

Four courses at 300 level:

• Two courses from STAT 300-399

Two further courses from:

• MATH 300-399
• OPRE 300-399
• STAT 300-399

Of which one course may be replaced by a 300-level course from another subject

Entry criteria

To be accepted into this degree you need:

• Achievement of the International Baccalaureate Diploma
• Successful completion of the All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSC) with an average of 75 per cent or higher overall
• Successful completion of the India School Certificate (ISC) with an average of 75 per cent or higher overall

Other English Language requirements:

• IELTS: minimum overall score of 6.0 with no sub-score below 5.5
• TOEFL: minimum overall score of 80 (internet-based test)
• Pearson Test of English: minimum score of 58 (with a 'Communicative score' of not less than 50)
• EPP: minimum final scores of 4,4,4,3
• A grade of 65% or higher in English in the AISSC or ISC.
