Summary

This postgraduate certificate gives health professionals, non-clinical members of the health workforce and others interested in the health sector the chance to critically examine a range of significant issues in health sciences, and where relevant to improve their professional practice.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences is a suitable introduction to the health science sector. It can also be a pathway to other postgraduate qualifications at UC.

Qualification structure and duration

The course of study for the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences shall comprise courses equivalent to 0.50 EFTS (60 points). Students complete any two 30-point courses from the approved schedule for the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences, and may have the option of transferring to a longer postgraduate programme if desired.

Subjects and courses

The courses that can be selected for the PGCertHealSc are:

the HLTH courses listed under the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences schedule; and

the Child and Family Psychology courses CFPY601 Disorders of Childhood and Adolescence, CFPY602 Child Development: Research Contexts and Applications, CFPY603 Introduction to Interventions, CFPY604 Counselling and Psychology: Theories and Skills; or

their equivalent.

Entry criteria

Candidates must have completed a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent health qualification.

Each candidate is subject to the approval of the Dean of Education. Prior qualifications and experience of the candidate will be taken into account in approving the course of study.

Other English language requirements: TOEFL PBT with a minimum score of 575 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5; CCEL EAP Level 2 with a minimum B+ grade; CAE or CPE score of 176 with a minimum of 169 in reading, writing, listening and speaking; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE with an overall score of 64 and no PTE communicative skills score below 58.
