Programme overview
You can take the one-year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) as a qualification in its own right after a Bachelor of Arts, or as a pathway to a one-year Master of Arts.
Postgraduate study is a unique opportunity to deepen your study of an academic area that you find intellectually rewarding and personally meaningful.
As well as deepening your knowledge in small classes with some of New Zealand’s leading scholars, you can hone advanced skills that will be an advantage in any career.
Chinese
Chinese develops your understanding of contemporary China, an increasingly important global economic power.
You can study the Chinese language from beginners to advanced stages. Your language study will be embedded in cultural contexts as you develop your knowledge of Chinese society, history, politics, film and literature. At postgraduate level you can focus on Chinese translation, linguistics and language teaching.
The BA(Hons) is a stand alone degree at postgraduate level. It may be taken after a completed BA and is awarded as a separate qualification. The BA(Hons) may be used as the entry qualification for the one year MA.
Chinese and your career
Our graduates have careers in international organizations, NGOs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and other areas of government. You might also work for a multinational company or a New Zealand company in Asia, or within New Zealand's Asian communities.
