Overview

This Master of Professional Studies in Teaching Chinese in Schools is a new specialist qualification for qualified teachers that will be of particular interest to those who teach Chinese in schools at an HSK Level 5 or its equivalent.

The programme aims to provide language teachers with the opportunity to engage in practise-based inquiry and research opportunities with leading academics that supports improvements in language learning outcomes for students in New Zealand schools.

• Advanced taught courses in your chosen specialisation
• May include a dissertation, depending on your specialisation
• One year full-time or up to two years part-time for a research masters
• One year full-time or up to four years part-time for a taught masters
• Mathematics Education may be taken as a research masters

Further study

From a masters degree you can go on to doctoral study. The Faculty of Education and Social Work offers two programmes at doctoral level – the Doctor of Education (EdD) and the Doctor of Philosophy in Education (PhD).

Entry criteria

You must have completed one of the following:

• A four-year bachelors degree (which includes one year of postgraduate-level study)
• A one-year postgraduate degree
• A bachelors degree and a one-year professional qualification or three years professional experience relevant to the area that you would like to study.

English language requirements:
IELTS 6.5; TOEFL (iBT) 90; TOEFL (paper-based) 575; CAE or CPE 176; PTE 58; MELAB 85.
